My hydroponics system is slowly coming along! It’s not done yet, since I have to wait for the caulk to dry at each joint before adding the next section. But so far it’s working without any leaks! It should hold 22 individual plants. I’ve got my first round of lettuce seeds sprouting on the windowsill while I get the main system set up. I splurged a little on a small greenhouse to set everything up in, and am using cheap black drainage pipes with holes cut in the tops to hold each of the little seed pots once they’re ready. I will be using a large aquarium pump I had on hand to pump water from the cistern (an old 18 gallon storage container) up to the top of the pipe system, where the water will slowly trickle down, keeping the roots of the plants in each pot wet, before returning back to the cistern below. Water from my upstairs 26gal aquarium (rich in nitrates) will be used as fertilizer. I’ll also be doing tomatoes in another container (not pictured) using a different hydroponic method (deep water culture system vs. nutrient film technique).
All in all, not too expensive or difficult so far, but time will tell if I actually manage to grow anything. x)
I will post updates as it gets put together! VEGETABLES! EXCITING!
